SHRI GURUBHYO NAMAHA🙏
47th AGM of Bangalore Kannada Vaishya Sangha(BKVS) was held on 29th July 2018, Sunday at Shri Shankara Sanniddhi. The Program began with Guru Saparya Parayana and an invocation by Smt. Muktha M. Shetti.
Shri Dinakar R. Shetti, President of Bangalore Kannada Vaishya Sangha welcomed the members. On this occasion, the updated Shaashvata Address book was released by Shri Gajanan M. Shetti(Retd CGM, RBI).
President of the Sangha in his speech appreciated the activities of KVWT and also MSP Golden Jubilee Committee. He urged upon the representatives of Community Welfare Organisations to proceed cautiously with the consensus of each and every member of our community before implementation of any important decisions.
With respect of legal implications, he also suggested interacting with our community eminent lawyers, Justice Jayaprakash P. Devadhar, Prof R. G. Devadhar and Shri Gurudutt N. Ankolekar to seek their advice. The president gave an overview of how our community name was originally incepted and highlighted the efforts of the founder members of our Sangha to uplift and develop it into what it is today… Beginning with the request of KVS Dharwad to name our community as “Kannada Vaishya” which was thereafter blessed by SHRI SHRI SHRINGERI JAGADGURU. The office bearers then approached the Karnataka State Backward Class Commission to incorporate our community name as Kannada Vaishya in their official records. To their surprise, none of the following names in their records was matching our caste/ community name. The previously recorded names included Arya*, Arya Vaishya, Jyothi Nagara Vaishya*, Komati/Kommatiga, Telugu Shetty/Chetty/Chettiyar, VaishyaVani, VaniVaishya.
Since the beginning, most of our community members mentioned our caste name as Vaishya Kommatiga but unfortunately, this was not matching with any of the caste names mentioned above. During 2015, taking written consent from all Kannada Vaishya Sangha’s in Karnataka, on our request Backward Class Commission has created a separate caste as “Kannada Vaishya” and allotted code number 0569. Accordingly, during census survey, all our community members have mentioned the name of the caste as Kannada Vaishya in Karnataka. In this context, President advised the volunteers in his speech to keep in mind the above facts and thought process gone into giving a unique identity to our community and the impact of any changes in future. BKVS will be celebrating its Golden Jubilee during 2020- 2021.
